01.03.2008 Barbie pet problems

I'm not going to make my first post of the new year any silly resolution to post more. I know I probably won't. I'd like to, really I would. But there is always something going on. Football season, bad reality TV, hanging out with friends. Really, I think I would still prefer to hang out with my friends than post my thoughts online so they can read them. So for the new year, here is a fun commercial that I found on Smart Bitches...

12.24.2007 In celebration of Jason Crisp

With no new SNLs, there have been re-runs of some of the best lately. Kim and I had a great time watching on of the Crisp-mass repeats this weekend.

12.20.2007 Amazon Kindling

The new Kindle from Amazon is a pitiful device that is stirring up a lot of discussion about the future of books and the model of the book industry. I have read many discussions about the impact of this device and I'm not too worried. In fact, I think this is a good technological step, even if I think the device itself will fail. Read a great discussion about the business of the Kindle.

12.06.2007 I want to run away and join the circus

I just saw an ad in the paper for a place called Air Play. It is a training center for the trapeze and other fun, flying, circus-y things. I think it is the coolest and want to try it out!

11.05.2007 the best love story

I can't wait to get a copy of Steve and Me. I have always enjoyed watching the passion Steve Irwin had for animals, the earth, and his wife Terri. This promises to be a wonderful book and will certainly make me tear up.

Read an excerpt.

10.24.2007 Right or Left it's all the same...

So I got this strange test in my email today that tests which side of your brain is dominant. I have no idea how it works or could work. I have yet to hear from anyone that is left brained to tell me that the dancer is going any direction other than clockwise. See what you think. Let me know.

***You Are 45% Left Brained, 55% Right Brained***

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

Are You Right or Left Brained?

10.22.2007 Pics and post

It has been way to long since I last posted, so I'm trying to get back on the horse. I have decided to keep it short, so I don't have too much anxiety over the fact that I have nothing to say.

Since last postings, I have uploaded pics from San Diego, including fabulous Zoo pics.

Yesterday I participated in the annual AIDS Walk. It was 10K. I did it last year and could barely walk the next day, so I am excited to announce that I only have mild pain in my left leg today. I'm a bit stiff when I get up after sitting for a while, but other than that, woo hoo!

09.13.2007 Airport travel

I will be posting pics from San Diego soon, but until I get around to that, I found an article that amused me in a recent issue of eWeek.

On July 5, Transportation Security Administration airport screeners found a bag with two ice packs inside. The ice packs had clay inside them rather than blue gel, were covered in tape and matched a description of materials on a TSA bulletin warning of dry runs for terrorist attacks. Turns out it was a chunk of cheese wedged between archaic, pre-blue-gel ice pack technology, made of clay.
In this country full of smart people, isn't anybody working on technology that can detect and differentiate explosive materials or weaponlike objects from cheese?

What a great sentiment. I spent a bit of time sitting in CPK in San Diego watching a girl picked through the random checks get searched. Unfortunately for her, she had a great deal of stuff that had to be individually swabbed and checked for explosive dust. Although she only had a few small bags, she had a number of key items that slowed her down. Note to self: don't carry 5 pairs of shoes in your carry on luggage. Another note: every piece of electronic equipment needs to be swabbed for explosive dust. She was there forever! With every shoe the security woman pulled out of her bag, she was getting worn down. She must have made a comment at one point, after the third pair of heels were discovered, because both of them were chuckling. I hope that girl got to her flight in time.
